Widespread availability and use of opioids is hazardous in daily life and potentially disastrous in workplaces. A great deal of discussion of opioids is appearing in popular media. However, employers and employees in manufacturing and related workplaces should be interested in taking the discussion to a deeper level in order to address awareness and actions that might maintain a safe workplace.
This Phone-in session will cover background, toxicological issues, current status of the problem, first responder issues, and employee/ employer options and responsibilities for personal and workplace hazard reduction. Attendee discussion of relevant experiences will be encouraged.
At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
- Describe relevant toxicological issues of opioid use and control
Illustrate current status of the problem in the workplace
Identify personal and workplace hazards and responsibilities
SPEAKER INFORMATION
Salvatore Cali, MPH, CIH, is an instructor and researcher at University of Illinois at Chicago and Technical Training Director/ NIEHS Principal Investigator at OAI, Inc. He has 28 years of professional experience and has published articles and presented on many industrial hygiene topics including indoor air quality, biohazards, ventilation design, and lead exposure.
