WCTI is hosting this Fall Protection Competent Person class for our members.  Any member who has an employee doing any of the following tasks should consider sending an employee to this training to help them understand the requirements of a “Competent Person” for fall protection.  It is the employer’s responsibility to authorize an employee as the competent person.

These are the tasks that require an onsite Competent Person in Fall Protection:

• Accessing the roof/skylights for changing filters, motors, inspecting for leaks, gutter cleaning, etc.
• Climbing on top of machinery/equipment, ovens, paint booths
• Working on unguarded docks and mezzanines or any other surface that is at a height of 4 feet or more
• Loading/unloading flatbed trucks
• Using a harness and lanyard for any work
• Working from a ladder to change light bulbs or ballasts
• Working on order pickers and using a belt or harness
• Hiring contractors to work on your roof or on top of equipment

In addition, this class will also provide an update on the regulations for walking and working surfaces.

By having one of your employees attend this class and by authorizing them as a “competent person”, in your written Walking and Working Surfaces program, you will also qualify for the MSAP points.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This Industrial Fall Protection Awareness Training enables the attendee to be responsible for the fall protection implementation at a manufacturing facility.  Several types of fall protection equipment will be brought in and demonstrated.

ABOUT THE TRAINER

John Newquist is an independent safety trainer, author, and consultant. He has been interviewed for his safety expertise and OSHA insight by NPR, BNA, Safety + Health Magazine, Mother Jones, and several more. He works with numerous companies to address their OSHA and safety compliance needs. He has a BS in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Masters of Science in Industrial Management from Northern Illinois University. He is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). He has taught hundreds of safety seminars across the country including the National VPPPA, Construction Safety Conference, American Society of Safety Engineers, National Fire Protection Association, and numerous Building Trade Councils. He worked for OSHA from 1983-2012 and was also the Area Director of the Peoria Area Office. He currently teaches safety classes at the Construction Safety Council.

Coffee and a Continental Breakfast will be provided.

The maximum number of participants is 50 so we encourage registering early.  An invoice will be emailed based on the number of participants.  Approximate cost is $40 per person (non-refundable) with 50 attendees.
